Cartographic records (71,842 items) include manuscript and published topographic, geological, and land use maps of areas in the Western United States from the Hayden and Powell Surveys, 1869-81; administrative maps relating to Survey mapping activities and maps published to accompany annual reports, professional papers, bulletins, and monographs, 1881-1955; manuscript and published river surveys and topographic maps, at varying scales, of areas in the United States and its dependencies, and special maps of States, national parks and forests, military reservations and battlefields, mining districts, and urban areas, 1879-1969; geological maps and maps showing mineral deposits, 1879-1969; published maps and graphs relating to streamflow and the distribution and availability of ground water, 1911-69; published maps and related publications concerning land classification in the Western United States,1930; aerial photographs and photoindexes principally coverning areas in the Northeastern United States, 1938-42; and published topographic maps, at two different scales of selected areas in Antarctica, 1956-71. Audiovisual records (6,098 items) include photographs by Willian H. Jackson and drawings by Henry W. Elliott of the Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and adjacent areas for the Hayden Survey, 1869-83; photographs of E.O. Beaman, J. Fennemore, and John K. Hillers of the Colorado River and adjacent areas for the Powell Survey, 1871-78; photographs by Hillers and others of geological formations in the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, New York, Florida, and along the Potomac River, 1878-86; photographs of the Colorado River and its tributaries made during the Robert Stanton Survey for a railroad route from the Colorado coalfields to the Pacific coast, 1889-90; and aerial mosaic photographs of coastal areas of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina, 1934.
